More shorts! I dub these the “Liberty shorts!”

I made another pair of gym style shorts! The pattern is lovely and works up so quickly, I had to! The original pattern called for Tana Lawn style fabric from Liberty of London. I had a meter in my stash I bought at Yuzawaya Hobby many, many moons ago and never used. The fabric is printed in Japan by Liberty of London Japan. I’ve recently vowed to actually use the materials and fabric I have instead of leaving them sitting in boxes.

The Tana Lawn fabric is made of cotton and really nice to work with. It pressed well and didn’t require much fiddling to get my machine set up correctly. Some fabric can be a little tricky to get the tension correct. I adore the floral pattern – it appeals to my inner hippy chic with the bold flowers. The pattern has a little more turquoise and gold than is normally present in my attire but I still love it. The fabric is nice and light so the Liberty shorts are nice to wear in extreme heat.

The first image is close to the true color of the fabric. I had a little trouble with the waist band on these for an unknown reason. Even though the fabric was cut to the same length as the red skull pair, it ended up being a little too long.

With this pair, I lengthened the inseam by about an inch. I was worried about my thigh rubbing on my bicycle seat if I rode in them. The extra length does help a little in that situation.

Now for the bad about the Liberty shorts

The Tana Lawn creases INSANELY! If you sit in the at all, you get nice little accordion pleats down the front.

The picture above was taken in an elevator so please excuse the crappy quality of the image. You can clearly see the pleats here though. I took these with me on a trip and ended up wearing them a lot, despite the pleats. Aside from the pleats, the only other issue I had was with the sheerness of the fabric. I have to be careful and chose light colored panties to go with these Liberty shorts. Dark colors show through the pattern.

Have you tried this fabric and pattern? What do you think?
