Techno Princess Present – Pink Blackberry

So my fiancée, the awesome guy that he is, decided that this year for my birthday he would do what I’ve been asking him to do for years –  make me a Pink Blackberry.

He’s been doing plastic models since loooong before he ever met me, so knew that regular model paint wouldn’t cut it – it would ding up too easy. He found car paints that were mixed down for use on small scale – for model cars and for artists that airbrush details on cars from House of Kolor – a car paint manufacturer.

I’m so proud of him – it looks totally awesome and will withstand the beating I put my phones through.

It took 2 tries to get it right – and the paint was crazy expensive, but here you go:

Isn’t it beautiful!!??!!

He started with a basic, black Blackberry shell, sanded it down and primered it with Bulldog Adhesion Promotor, which is basically car primer. Next, he airbrushed it with silver metallic House of Kolor paint. Then, when that paint was cured, he did two different pearlescent pinks over the top of the silver. Neither of the pinks he used were opaque so, the silver showed through nicely and made it look very sparkly and glittery. The metallic flake of the silver is very fine so it didn’t look like chunky glitter.

Again – this is the work of my fiancée; he’s the master airbrusher in this family. I just had to show it off where crafty people would see it – he’s posting it on the Blackberry forums he visits.

My other crafts appear on this site too 🙂
