Costco in Japan

I really like Costco in America and so when I had extra time on my last trip, I just had to go check out Costco in Japan. We needed to take the train to Narita and meet up with a member of our travel party so the trip to Costco also offered us a chance to get farther out than we normally do on the train in the Tokyo area and grab a few staple items.

How We Got to Costco

We took the train out, got a little turned around, and got a little help from the regular riders to get back on track. All in all, it took us a little over an hour to get out and the same to get back to our base in Shin Okobu. The ride there is quite lovely and I enjoyed seeing the country side from the train.

The Costco Itself

The Costco was a really close to the train but to get to it, we had to slog through a mall. The mall is interesting – full of kiddos and mommies going about their day. It is large and semi-American styled with wide isles and lots of places to sort your things and sit and hang out. The guys did end up sitting around in the mall’s food court for a bit as I went to IKEA! Yep – out in Narita, there is an IKEA.

The layout is the same as every Costco I’ve been to in the US. No surprise. The food court was smaller and inside, which is unusual for American Costcos, at least in the states I’ve lived in. I was surprised to see how many American foods are available – even sausage from Texas.

USDA Beef? Yep!

Items Specific to Costco in Japan

We found some fun items too – electric bikes and 4 liter bottles of alcohol!

The liquor selection was awesome! However, I think one of the best things was cheap delivery. The delivery was not expensive and took about 2 days. We had to be in Narita to meet up with our friend on the day things would have been delivered so we opted to carry everything home ourselves. I will definitely take advantage of the shipping next time we are in Japan for an extended. stay.
