My Wedding in California

The Mr and I have been together for a long, long time. We’ve (officially) been together longer than we lived without each other. My wedding day was WAY back in 2007. Hubs and I have been officially married for over ten years now. Here we are on the day of:

We were so skinny and cute – well, we’re still skinny and cute, just older. A lot has happened since then; his mom died, I almost died, we’ve travelled a lot and had a lot of fun.

Everyone asks me why we’re the only ones in the pictures. It is simple – our families weren’t really compatible for a ton of reasons and we wanted to get hitched with as little drama as possible. Having our mothers together would have been a nightmare, so we opted for a private ceremony with just the two of us.

If it doesn’t sound familiar, private wedding ceremonies in California are a byproduct of Hollywood. All the marriage details are confidential and require court order to access or notarized permission from the couple. The added bonus comes in that the marriage ceremony can be done without a witness. The only required people are the couple marrying and a licensed officiant.

We got married at a lovely little place in Venice called the Secret Garden. I can’t find their site anymore – but the officiant planted almost her entire yard in flowers and had a couple of little spots decorated for the events. She was Unitarian and we requested a nondenominational services and she delivered well. Short, sweet and more about nature and love than the traditional vows.
