I’ve been meaning to post about this place for quite some time. On our last trip to Tokyo in 2015, Husband and I finally got a chance to visit the Gundam Café in Akihabara, Tokyo. The café is slightly separated from the main, and well known, nerdy areas of Akiba. It is nestled under a set of train tracks, on a little round about. The building looks like it was slotted in its place from a colony ship by a mech!
I was immediately in love with the place as they had a large, 1:1 scale Haro at the front. The sign says “don’t touch,” but in Japanese with some explanation as to why you shouldn’t touch it.
The décor was perfect inside as well. The interior was styled like the inside of a ship along with the attendant characters.
The food was really fun as well. They styled the (admittedly bland) deserts as recognizable items from the show. We had recently eaten but needed a break and pick me up, so grabbed some deserts. It was definitely cool to have Gundam Styled food but we didn’t expect much from what we ordered. It was all fairly ordinary but still tasted good.
The real hot item (pun only kind of intended) at the Gundam Café, was the coffee! They have a whole “story” for the café that revolves around the Brazilian Coffee from Jaburo, the location of the Earth Federation headquarters. And the coffee was good! All coffee goods fit the theme as well.
Name all of the mechs, if you can!!
I bought a few little items on our way out, as there is a tiny little gift shop next to the front food ordering counter.
