The Unicorn Yarn of Loveliness

The second sweater I made this year was from Lion Brand’s Mandala series in the “Unicorn” colorway (hence the name). The pattern is a super simple “V” stitch sweater from Make and Do Crew, who make really nice patterns that are easy to follow. I will probably make this sweater again in a smaller size with “flowy-er” yarn. I made a large but it’s a bit too large in the middle and makes me look a lot larger than I am.

I made a few mistakes on this sweater but I left them in instead of frogging and redoing rows. The V stitch is really forgiving and I’m the only one that can see the mistakes. If someone is looking at this sweater close enough or hard enough to see the boo boos, we’ve got other issues. The sleeves are not supposed to that that bell-shaped cuff, I didn’t size down the hook and I ended up with the bells.

This sweater took a bunch of yarn, mostly because I was kind of anal about the variegations. I lined them up fairly well, and am super proud of the results. I used four cakes of the yarn but managed to find it on sale at Joann‘s. Now – it’s unicorn sweater time! From the front:

You can see what I mean about the bell sleeves in that last photo. Pretty wide….

I also had enough left over yarn, that it inspired me to start a little throw for the couch. I added one more cake to my stash to finish this off. It’s super soft and squishy, just the perfect size to throw over my legs folded under me on the couch.

Glue stick for size comparisons. I look like a giant sea of pink when on the couch in this sweater with the throw on my legs 😀
