I took an interest in street art many years ago and took a ton of pictures on my last trip. I wanted to compare the street art I shot on my 2016 trip to what I saw on my 2018 trip. Wow – there are some things from my 2016 trip that are still on the walls or were re-painted.
I took this picture and posted to Instagram after my last trip:
View this post on Instagram#streetart #tokyo #shibuya – I have no IDEA what it says, but it looks cool.
Here’s the same exact spot in 2018:
The differences are really interesting to see over time…. this one has clearly faded and had more added to the placement as a whole. Other more “official” murals hadn’t changed at all.
I am really pleased to see that either some local Los Angles artists visited OR collaborated with local Japanese artist to get their work up around town. The artists I can tag are…
Nickey Nailed It and 1dirlust:
The one above is really easy to spot. The Babyface paste up is over a cute little shop in Shibuya, right by the first floor entrance to Tokyu Hands. It’s best from the bike entrance in the basement though. The shop the image is pasted over features clothes and jewelry – the sort of hippie or fiend yoga type clothes you see around college campuses. They have a great jewelry selection.
I recognize another sticker in there but I don’t know the artist (will update later if I find him/her).
